Borough’s Premier Annual Tasting Event Helps Brooklyn
Restaurant Industry Achieve New Heights Over the Past Decade 
On Tuesday, October 3, 2006, more than 800 food-savvy New Yorkers will gather at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Brooklyn Eats, the borough’s premier showcase for Brooklyn restaurants and specialty food and beverage manufacturers.  There are over 55 participants in this year’s Brooklyn Eats, a Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce marketing initiative that has helped promote the borough’s restaurant industry over the past decade.
Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce President Kenneth Adams said, “At the very first Brooklyn Eats, we began with 10 restaurants representing a Brooklyn restaurant scene that, at that point, was somewhat limited. Still, we knew we had great places to eat in our neighborhoods, but back then the rest of the world had no idea.”
“These days, New Yorkers from across the five boroughs know all about the new restaurant rows that have redefined Smith Street, Fifth Avenue, Fulton Street, and more. They seek out cutting edge chefs in Williamsburg and Fort Greene. And even our neighbors in Manhattan now know that some of the best Chinese food in the city is in Sunset Park and that we’ve got world-class Italian restaurants in Bay Ridge,” he said.
Mr. Adams concluded, “Brooklyn is now rightfully known as an incredible place to find great food and great restaurants, and all of us at the Brooklyn Chamber are proud of the role that Brooklyn Eats has played in raising the industry’s profile and expanding the restaurant sector of our borough’s economy.”
Along with celebrating the 10-year success of Brooklyn Eats, Chamber officials also will announce the winners of the fifth annual Brooklyn Eats Scholarships.  Kenneth Adams, Chamber Chairman, Dan Holt and numerous Brooklyn elected officials will present scholarships to three hospitality management students studying at the New York City College of Technology in Downtown Brooklyn.  Scholarship winners Veronica Maldonado, Jude Nwabuoku, and Rhonda Rondon will then unveil the new recipe they have developed especially for the event.

Major funding for Brooklyn Eats is provided by New York City Council Speaker Christine Quinn and the Brooklyn delegation of the New York City Council.  The event is sponsored by Commerce Bank with additional support from American Express, Pfizer, Inc., Sweet ‘N Low, TD Banknorth, N.A., Verizon Communications, and in collaboration with American Institute of Wine and Food-New York Chapter, New York City College of Technology, CUNY and Heart of Brooklyn.
The Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce – New York City’s largest chamber with 1,300 Members – is a business assistance and economic development organization dedicated to helping businesses grow and to promoting the economic development of Brooklyn.

Brooklyn Eats will take place from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge located at 333 Adams Street in Downtown Brooklyn.
