Re: “Reparations Are We Ready? [blackstarnews.com Dec. 15] by Zekita Tucker. As the Honorable Silis Muhammad has repeatedly emphasized in interventions before the United Nations, Reparations means far more than financial restitution for centuries of brutal chattel slavery and subsequent decades of oppression. Reparation means the Restoration of all 250 million slave descendants in the western hemisphere who continue to suffer from ethnocide and forced assimilation.
We must be restored to our original language, culture and the power of self-determination. Only when we the Afro descendants establish our Human Rights inside the international legal arena can we proceed to secure Reparations and begin the healing of our long exploited people. When Dr. Condoleeza Rice opposes Reparations for her own people, she is not just speaking as a self-aggrandizing puppet of the U.S. government: she is also speaking as a victim of ethnocide.
One of the ways the Black media can help our people to get ready for Reparations is by providing broader and deeper coverage of the seldom-publicized legal battle which has been unfolding inside the United Nations for more than a decade.
