On Saturday, June 30th, 2007, young professionals in Brooklyn will unite to do their first “Walk for Economic Empowerment”. This walk was organized as a demonstration to show support for community based businesses within the Brooklyn community.  The participants of the walk are Anthony Herbert, Representative of North Fork Bank and President of The Professionals Network Org.; Ryan Mack and Lloyd Cambridge, President and CFO of Optimum Capital Management; Darnell Canada, President of REBUILD; and All About Business (AAB), the Optimum Capital Management teenage financial literacy group.  This group of young professional community advocates will walk throughout the Fort Greene/Bedford Stuyvesant community going into businesses offering access to financial support and tangible ideas in an attempt to drive traffic to businesses in their neighborhood.

As a business banking representative of North Fork Bank and a strong community advocate, Anthony Herbert works with organizations like Optimum and REBUILD to help establish access to financial resources and economic opportunity.  He has a mission to assist small businesses within his community to grow, develop, and continue to establish themselves as viable economic contributors to the community, in addition to providing employment opportunities.

In preparation for this walk Tony stated, “This is our community.  I was raised in Brooklyn and I refuse to let our community businesses or the community residents continue to struggle to find the support they need to thrive.  I was happy to join with Optimum to organize this movement because this is the sort of grassroots initiative that I believe the community has been longing for and need.”

Members of the All About Business teenage financial literacy group will offer such benevolent assistance as to create business literature of each establishment and pass literature out in their prospective neighborhoods (sponsored by Optimum Capital Management), provide free financial literacy seminars within the prospective establishments, and will ask if there are any internships available for high school teenagers within the establishments that would provide assistance with day to day activities.

Stephen Sawney, second year member of All About Business and first year student of Morehouse College stated, “Ryan Mack has always taught us that we must take a strong stand to support our community.  I am from this community and want to do everything possible to support the businesses and people within it.  The better they do, the better our community does as a whole.  It is time that the talking stops and the action begins.”

Where: Corner of Fulton Street & South Oxford in Fort Greene, Brooklyn

(The walk will take place primarily in Brooklyn on Fulton Street between the streets of Kingston Ave and Ashland Place.)

When: The press conference kicks off the walking tour which will begin at 12:00 pm.

The Professionals Network Organization (TPNO) was founded in 1996 by Tony Herbert together with several business associates. The key function of TPNO is to provide young, upwardly mobile minorities with opportunities to obtain access to resources and information that will allow them to grow and to bring them closer to realizing the American dream by becoming part of an “Ownership Society”. The Professionals Network Organization members and supporters get together for monthly social mixers at various hot spots around New York City to network. TPNO is growing rapidly and opening chapters nationwide.  To learn more about The Professionals Network Organization, logon to www.myspace.com/tpno
