LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers left no doubt that they came to win tonight and were crowned the NBA champs, giving the Lakers their 17th title.

The Lakers beat Miami 106-93.

The game was practically over by half-time when the Lakers destroyed the Miami Heat in the second quarter with stifling defense. The Lakers scored 36 points in that quarter to Miami’s 16. Los Angeles had scored 28 in the first quarter while the heat bagged 20 points. The Lakers also outscored the Heat in the second quarter 36-16.

The Heat, as they have all season, showed resilience by fighting back in the second half.

The Lakers only won the third quarter by one point 23-22. And in the fourth quarter, the never-say-die Heat won the quarter 35-19. Unfortunately, the Heat, especially star player Jimmy Butler (who logged heavy minutes throughout the series) just ran out of gas.

LeBron James finished the game with 28 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists. James has now won 4 championships, along with 4 Finals MVP Awards–and is among an elite group of players having now won a championship with three teams, winning one in Cleveland and two in Miami previously.

Former Toronto Raptors and San Antonio Spurs player Danny Green, like Lebron, has just won his third championship with his third team, having won one in San Antonio and one in Toronto.

Former Boston Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo won his second championship having won one in Boston with Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett.

This year’s Lakers championship capped off a tumultous year for the Lakers, especially with the tragic death of Kobe Bryant.
