Four NY/NJ metro area high school basketball teams – all comprising student-athletes in need of ensuring their college readiness – will vie for the championship of the prestigious YES Inc. SMARTBALL Classic this Wednesday, Aug. 19 and Thursday, Aug. 20 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Abraham Lincoln Playground, 135th St. and 5th Ave. in Harlem.

The “Big 4” games on Thursday feature the following match-ups:

6:30pm Monsignor Scanlan (Bronx, NY) vs. Boys & Girls High School (Bklyn, NY)

8:00pm Bishop Loughlin (Bklyn, NY) vs. Abraham Lincoln H.S. (Bklyn, NY)

The SMARTBALL Classic, under the aegis of the non-profit YES Inc., is a 16-team pre-season “invitation-only” basketball tournament featuring the most competitive high school boys’ basketball programs in the metropolitan area.

All teams must participate in the SMARTBALL Reality Check Workshops and Education Forum - an educational experience that presents scholar-athletes with the information necessary for high-school graduation, qualification for college, and NCAA academic requirements for athletic participation as freshmen.

YES Inc.’s SMARTBALL is a 10-year-old program that develops and implements innovative athletic and academic support programs to help prepare scholar-athletes successfully transition to college, sustain them during enrollment and support them through graduation.
