Annet Negesa, fresh from her junior team bronze medal at last weekend's World Cross Country Championships in Poland, won the Women's 800m at the 3rd UAF Trial held at Kampala's Mandela National Stadium, in Uganda.
After allowing Achola Janet to lead on the first lap, Negesa ran a scintillating 3rd 200m, eventually breaking Achola on the final bend.
Negesa won by 2 seconds, the unofficial finishing times being: Annet Negesa (Standard High) 2 min 08.6 sec; and, Achola Janet (Prisons) 2 min 10.6 sec.
"We expected the normal suicidally fast first 200 from some of the other girls," Achola's coach, Kevin O'Connor, said.
"But it turned out to be slow, with Janet having to lead, and this affected the shape of the rest of the race. However Janet was well-beaten today by a tough opponent. There were, though, some encouraging signs."
