America spoke and on Tuesday the House of Representatives flipped to Democratic control.

There’s a new sheriff in town. The American people have spoken and they voted overwhelmingly in favor of a check on a president who has operated with impunity and a political party that covered for him.

Trump and the GOP closed with a desperate and dangerous argument. They stoked fear and incited racial panic. But this unprecedented mix of mendacity and racism did not work. In fact, it backfired.

Trump’s xenophobia was aided and abetted by Paul Ryan and his super PAC. The ads were ugly, the motivation was cynical, and the repercussions are dangerous. We thought Ryan might be an American hero, but he ends his political career diminished and disgraced.

We got what we wanted and needed. We stand with the majority of Americans who turned out in huge numbers to vote against hate and racism and for a tolerant and welcoming country.
