Today, the two New York State Laborers union affiliates of the Laborers International Union of North America (LiUNA), that represents over 25,000 members in the construction industry and other fields across New York City and State, endorsed Comptroller Scott Stringer for Mayor of New York.

The union hailed Stringer’s long track record of supporting New York City’s labor movement and working families, and argued Stringer is the candidate who will be ready on day one to address New York’s challenges in a post-COVID recovery.

Robert Bonanza, Business Manager of the Mason Tenders’ District Council of Greater New York said: “For the last eight years, as city policy has careened from one direction to another, there has been one voice of reason, seemingly at times the only ‘grown up’ in the room, and that man is Scott Stringer. In these unprecedented times, New York will need a steady hand to guide us out of the pandemic and its accompanying economic downturn, back to the prosperity that goes along with being the Capital of the World. Scott understands the importance of development and construction issues to the City’s economic health and has been one of the most solid supporters of New York’s working men and women for more than two decades. We are proud to endorse him as the next Mayor of New York City!”

Armand E. Sabitoni, LiUNA! General Secretary-Treasurer and New England Regional Manager said: “The Laborers International Union of North America represents over 500,000 hard working men and women across the country. Over 25,000 of them live and work in New York City. Not just for our members, but for everyone that calls New York City their home, this election could not be more important. The toll the pandemic has taken on peoples’ lives and livelihoods is of a magnitude we have not seen in a century. It will be this next Mayor who will be tasked with bringing us out of these ruins, and rebuilding a stronger, bolder, more just city. The men and women of LiUNA will be by the side of Scott Stringer as we all work together to create the city we have long envisioned. It is with great pride and confidence that we make this endorsement.”

Comptroller Scott Stringer said: “The hard-working men and women of LiUNA represent the best of New York City. If we’re going to have a real economic recovery it needs to center these workers and leverage their talents to build our city back better and fairer than before. As mayor, I’m committed to helping all workers climb the economic ladder to security and stability. New York City’s working families deserve a fair shake and decent wages, and I’m proud to fight alongside LiUNA to build a city for everyone.”
