Raymond Sanchez Jr. Esq., officially launched his campaign for the 7th City Council District today.

A Democrat with 20 years of experience across diverse sectors including government, banking, academia, non-profit and political work, Sanchez opens his campaign having raised $168,368, including expected matching funds.

Sanchez, who currently serves as the CEO of a prominent homeless services provider, Aguila Inc., said his campaign would focus on his record of service, such as helping author the city’s first ever “living wage” legislation, as well as his ability to build coalitions and deliver solutions for the priorities of the district. Sanchez’s campaign will be guided by a campaign slogan that reflects both his attitude and long record of service and accomplishment, “Real Talk, Real Experience, Real Action.”

“Our city’s recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic will require leadership that has the right combination of experience and relationships to solve problems, rebuild our city and ensure that our district is at the forefront of that effort,” said Ray Sanchez, Democratic Candidate for Upper Manhattan’s 7th City Council District. “I am the candidate that is best prepared to deliver for the people of Upper Manhattan, and I look forward to making my case to voters to select me as their next City Council Member in the June 22 Democratic Primary.

Since September 30, 2020, Sanchez has served as the CEO of Aguila, Inc., turning around an organization that has served our neediest New Yorkers for decades. As the organization became embroiled in conflict, the board of Aguila chose Sanchez to right the ship.

Prior to Aguila, Sanchez was counsel and senior policy manager for Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. While working for Diaz, Sanchez served as the borough president’s appointee to the New York City Employees’ Retirement System (NYCERS), the Franchise and Concession Review Committee (FCRC) and the Regional Economic Development Council (REDC).

In his first filing with the New York City Campaign Finance Board, Sanchez reported $36,805 in just 145 days, significantly more than many of the other candidates in the race. Support continues to grow for his campaign with over 470 contributions. With matching funds, Sanchez will have at least $168,368 in his warchest as the campaign heats up.

Sanchez also announced that his campaign has partnered with Rep’d, a technology platform designed to build a streamlined, interactive connection between voters and candidates. Sanchez is the first candidate in New York City to work with Rep’d, and is working with the platform to provide voters in the district and across the city with fast video replies about the issues facing New York City and the themes behind his campaign.
