YONKERS, NY – Today, Congressman Jamaal Bowman was endorsed by Massachusetts Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley (MA-07). Rep. Pressley and Rep. Bowman have been working hand-in-hand in Congress to push Democrats to use their power to deliver urgently-needed progress for our communities.

Rep. Pressley’s endorsement comes on the heels of the Working Families Party endorsement that was announced this morning.

"When I endorsed Jamaal Bowman in 2020, I said we needed his leadership in Congress to help advance bold solutions to the shared challenges facing our communities. Just over a year into his first term, Rep. Bowman has shown just how fully he embodies the spirit of courageous, community-centered leadership. From environmental and education justice to workers rights and economic opportunity, Jamaal has advocated and legislated to make real, meaningful change for the people of NY-16 and communities across the country. He hasn’t been afraid to call out obstructionism, stand up to vitriol, or take on tough fights, and I’m proud to endorse his campaign for re-election,” said Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley.

In Congress, Rep. Pressley and Rep. Bowman have worked together on various issues including in introducing a bill that would reimpose a nationwide eviction moratorium, just as the country began to face a variant fueled surge of COVID cases. They have also stood in solidarity with other congressional colleagues when they called on President Biden to deliver on his promise to appoint a Black woman to the U.S. Supreme Court, proposed a law that would block legacy admissions in colleges and universities, and held the line, demanding that President Biden pass his Build Back Better agenda at the same time as the bipartisan infrastructure bill. Reps. Pressley and Bowman also worked with a few other colleagues to introduce The Counseling Not Criminalization in Schools Act, a piece of legislation that would provide $5 billion in new grant funding to help schools hire more counselors, social workers, and other behavioral health personnel.

Late last year, Rep. Pressley and Rep. Bowman also took a powerful stance next to one another at a press conference as they introduced a resolution that would strip Rep. Lauren Boebert of his committee assignments after her racist and bigoted comments against their Muslim colleague, Rep. Ilhan Omar.

"I am proud to receive the support of my sister and colleague, Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley,” said Congressman Jamaal Bowman (NY-16). “As the first Black woman elected to Congress from Massachusetts, Rep. Pressley understands the hard work and fight that it takes to break down barriers just to have your voice heard as a Black person in America. Her commitment to our fight makes me beyond proud to earn her endorsement. I look forward to continuing our work in Congress as we push for an agenda rooted in the needs of the American people that includes environmental justice, universal health care, reforming our legal system, and providing working families the resources they need to get through the COVID pandemic.”

Congresswoman Pressley adds to a recent surge of endorsements for Rep. Bowman’s re-election campaign including from the Working Families Party, NY Senator Schumer and Gillibrand, CWA, The Jewish Vote, and Planned Parenthood Action Fund.

Rep. Pressley had previously endorsed Rep. Bowman during his primary race against 30-year incumbent Eliot Engel in 2020.
