THE BRONX – Today, the United African Coalition announces their endorsement of New York Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernández, candidate for Bronx Borough President.

“In the aftermath of the COVID-19 carnage that further exposed the inequality in America and disproportionately impacted the poor and Black and Brown communities, it is time to elect progressive candidates who genuinely cares about our community and are not afraid to stand up to the status quo and fight for socio and economic justice for Bronxites. The United African Coalition is confident that Nathalia Fernandez, when elected, will fight for the long overdue change to achieve equity for every Bronx resident, and this is why we are endorsing Nathalia Fernandez for Bronx Borough President,” said Bukola Shonuga, Executive Director.

The United African Coalition, UNAC is a political institution serving as the umbrella organization representing the electoral interest of the 3 million continental Africans in the United States. Since its founding in 2013, UNAC continues to educate its constituents on the importance of civic engagement to ensure their voices are heard and to make sure they vote.

“I am proud to have the support of the United African Coalition and as the daughter of immigrants, I understand firsthand how hard immigrants must work to overcome the barriers and inequities in our society.” said Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernández. “As borough president, I look forward to working with UNAC to advocate for progressive policies that will tear down these barriers and will ensure a more equitable borough where every Bronxite has a seat at the table.”

UNAC’s endorsement comes shortly after the Union of Arab Women endorsed Assemblywoman Nathalia Fernández’s campaign.

Assemblywoman Fernández is also endorsed by Senator Gustavo Rivera (SD-33), Maya Wiley, TWU Local 100, Assemblyman Daniel O’Donnell (AD-69), State Senator Julia Salazar (SD-18), Assemblywoman Catalina Cruz (AD-39), Assemblyman Michael Blake (AD-79), Assemblywoman Chantel Jackson (AD-79), Assemblyman Kenny Burgos (AD-85), Assemblywoman Deborah Glick (AD-66), NYIC Action, NASW PACE, and the Latino Victory Fund.

If elected, Fernandez would be the first woman elected Bronx Borough President, and the first Latina to hold borough-wide office in New York City history.
