Marcellis Stinnette (on left) is one of the latest victims of raical policing, as he was shot and killed while he sat in his car with girlfriend Tafara Williams (on right) who is now hospitalized with gunshot wounds.
Romanucci & Blandin, LLC and Ben Crump Law issued the following statement from Attorneys Ben Crump and Antonio Romanucci, who represent 20-year-old Tafara Williams, who was shot and seriously injured by a police officer in Waukegan, Illinois this week, in an incident that also killed her boyfriend, 19-year-old Marcellis Stinnette.
“The firing of the officer involved in this week’s tragic and senseless shooting in Waukegan is a first step in police accountability, but does nothing to restore the life and health of the two young people involved. We will press forward with our own investigation into the facts of this tragedy. It is apparent that the relative speed of the decision in the Waukegan case is the direct result of police reforms created by the Taylor and Floyd and Blake and Prude and Williams cases nationwide, as the cry for systemic change is heard loudly across the country.”
Attorneys Ben Crump and Antonio M. Romanucci together also represent the families of George Floyd, Daniel Prude, Byron Williams and other victims of excessive police force around the country.
