A Black man killed in a confrontation with police in an Ohio emergency room last year was shot 20 times in the encounter, with injuries in the head, chest, and abdomen, according to a coroner's report.
Miles Jackson, 27, died April 12 in a suburban hospital emergency room after a struggle with Columbus police officers that started when they discovered he had a gun concealed in his sweatpants. A standoff ensued after the gun went off, with police eventually opening fire as Jackson appeared to sit up and officers yelled, “He shot again!” and “He’s got a gun!”, according to bodycam footage.
The 20 shots that hit Jackson included wounds to his left ear, chin, chest, abdomen, buttocks and thighs, Dr. Anahi Ortiz, the Franklin County coroner, said in her report. Read more.
