Grand jury recordings from the case of Breonna Taylor were released on Friday, which included interviews with the officers involved, neighbors, and witnesses. The recordings run about 15 hours long.

One piece of audio is of an investigator who told the court they interviewed a neighbor who said the officers did not announce they were police before entering Taylor’s apartment on the night of her death.

The neighbor lived next door to Taylor and told the investigator they know “for a fact nobody announced” themselves.

Taylor’s boyfriend Kenneth Walker told a similar story of the officers not announcing they were police while serving a “no-knock warrant” and banging loudly on the door.

In a recording played for the jurors, Walker told investigators that he and Taylor asked “who is it?” multiple times with no answer. He thought the apartment was being broken into and fired his legally owned handgun once, according to his arrest citation.

The three police officers returned fire with more than 20 rounds, striking Taylor multiple times.

“Next thing I know, she’s on the ground and the door’s busted open and I hear a bunch of yelling and just panicking,” Walker said. “And she’s right here bleeding. And nobody’s coming, and I’m just confused and scared.”

Attorneys for the Taylor family said neighbors did not hear the police announce themselves before entering, though the officers claim they did announce themselves.

Another neighbor said that they heard the officers say, “Reload, reload, let’s do what we need to do.”
