The Leadership Conference Education Fund and the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI) are launching Black Justice is Our Justice, a campaign to combat white supremacy by fighting anti-Blackness.

The groups are engaging and supporting Black immigrants and Black people who are disenfranchised due to the criminal legal system to mobilize their communities to become more civically engaged. The campaign kicks off with an electoral call-to action, urging Black immigrants and reentrants to educate and empower their families and friends to vote, and providing them with resources to fight voter suppression tactics. As the campaign continues past the election, additional partners in other communities will join.

“The Black Justice is Our Justice campaign calls on everyone, across communities, to unite to end all forms of hate and discrimination by tackling the anti-Blackness that is at the center of bigotry and xenophobia in America today,” said Becky Monroe, director of the Fighting Hate and Bias program at The Education Fund. “An inclusive, fair, and just society must engage across communities targeted for hate to combat anti-Blackness and create a healthy and strong democracy.”

“Black immigrants have always played an integral role in the fight for a fair and just society by uplifting the democratic principle that everyone, regardless of immigration status or past convictions, should have an equal opportunity to engage in civil and political life in the United States,” said Nana Gyamfi, executive director of the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI). "Across the U.S., as Black communities are rising for justice, there is unprecedented recognition that anti-Blackness denies Black people their human rights and hard-fought civil rights and liberties.”

In addition to the campaign PSA that can be viewed here, BAJI and The Education Fund will also host virtual events, including a voter empowerment training hosted by BAJI on Thursday, October 22, from 3:00-4:00 p.m. ET.

The Leadership Conference Education Fund builds public will for federal policies that promote and protect the civil and human rights of all persons in the United States. The Education Fund’s campaigns empower and mobilize advocates around the country to push for progressive change in the United States. It was founded in 1969 as the education and research arm of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. For more information on The Education Fund, visit civilrights.org/edfund/.
