On Tuesday, the Innocence Project took a big next step in the effort to save Melissa Lucio by filing a clemency petition on her behalf.

Melissa is scheduled for execution in Texas on April 27 for a crime that never occurred. In 2008, Melissa was convicted and sentenced to death for the murder of her 2-year-old daughter Mariah, based on a biased and inadequate investigation into her child’s health history and death, and a shockingly poor defense.

We’re calling on Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles to grant Melissa clemency and stop her execution before they make the irreversible and tragic mistake of executing an innocent person.

The clemency petition is now in the hands of Gov. Abbott and the Board of Pardons and Paroles. But with less than 40 days until Melissa’s scheduled execution, we need as many people as possible to join this fight in order to stop her execution.

Watch this video from Melissa’s legal team, and then share it with your friends and family on social media to help spread the word.

Then, add your name to the petition or text SAVEMELISSA to 97016.
