The Ferguson, MO., Police Department Chief Thomas Jackson has identified Darren Wilson as the officer who killed Michael Brown on August 9.

He said the officer was a 6 year veteran of the of force and had no prior record of incidents.

Jackson said Wilson had earlier responded to a call about a robbery before encountering Brown later.

Jackson did not take any questions or clarify whether he meant to say Wilson had believed Brown was a suspect in the robbery.

Without elaboration the reference to the robbery seemed calculated to impugn the dead teenager's character.

More news to come.
