There is no evidence to support Donald Trump’s claims that the U.S. Presidential election was fraudulent and no need to appoint a special counsel to investigate the matter, outgoing attorney general Bill Bar said in his final press conference.

Responding to questions from reporters Barr also said there was no need to appoint a special counsel to look into the ongoing investigation by the Justice Department of alleged transgressions involving the taxes of Hunter Biden, incoming president Joe Biden’s son.

“I have not seen a reason to appoint a special counsel and I have no plan to do so before I leave,” Barr said.

This doesn’t mean Trump won’t twist-arm Barr’s successor, Jeffrey Rosen, who will be acting attorney general to appoint the special counsel.

Barr also repudiated President Trump’s claims in a recent tweet that China could have been responsible for the recently discovered hacking into U.S. government agencies’ websites. The attorney general who will be leaving office this week said he agreed with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo’s revelation that Russia was clearly behind the hacking.

Bill Barr clearly wanted to publicly repudiate President Trump who seems to have completely lost his bearing and become clinically insane in recent days, and has reportedly even mulled over the possibility of declaring martial law and using the military to overturn the election. Trump lost the popular vote to Biden by more than seven million votes. The incoming president won 81,281,888 to Trump’s 74,223,251. Biden also won 306 electors compared to Trump’s 232.

Biden will be sworn in as president on January 20, 2020.
