Thanks to years of raising awareness, mobilizing the community to support direct actions around the country, fundraising, organizing to move those in power to concede, and people like you signing and sharing this petition to express your solidarity, Dr. Mutulu Shakur was released from prison on Friday, December 16.

After spending nearly 37 years in confinement, Dr. Shakur, a respected 72-year old grandfather, healer, and elder, is now in the care and warm embrace of his family and community.

Mutulu is deeply grateful for the broad expression of trust and support, and he thanks everyone who has helped him over the years. We ask that he have space and time to be with family and to continue receiving medical treatment. We welcome him home with great joy and appreciation. With the long-awaited success of this campaign in hand, we will be closing this petition in the coming days.

As Mutulu continues his journey toward his own healing, however, we ask that you make a donation to support his ongoing medical care and other expenses.
