Protests sparked by the non-indictments of Officers Daniel Pantaleo, Darren Wilson, and countless other killers in blue, continue to disrupt routine throughout New York and the nation. This level of discord, unseen in many years in the U.S., concentrates a rising wave of social tumult gripping the country from all corners of society over the illegitimacy of unbridled police power and the system behind it.

Yesterday afternoon at the West Park Presbyterian Church on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, an assembly of dozens of activist organizations poured into pews to build upon the resistance that’s been sweeping the nation for the last two weeks in preparation for an upcoming week of collective action spearheaded by the Stop Mass Incarceration Network: “The Week of Outrage To Stop Police Murder.”

Beginning Monday, a mosaic of all New Yorkers including artists, students, teachers, religious leaders and lawyers, will unite in a weeklong course of dedicated non-violent solidarity not only to disrupt, but actually move towards upending a system that condones police brutality and murder.  Members of the faith community are also stepping forward calling for sermons and talks on the Week of Outrage.  Father Lawrence Lucas is the spokesperson for the “All Faiths and Religions for the Week of Outrage.”

The Week of Outrage calls for a swelling of the tens of thousands already marching nationwide into what Carl Dix, co-founder of the Stop Mass Incarceration Network, deemed today “a movement of millions demanding that this slow genocide must stop.”

The Week of Outrage is putting forth the following demands:

·         Justice for Michael Brown, Eric Garner, Akai Gurley and All Victims of Police Brutality and Murders

·         Indict, Convict, and Send the Killer Cops to Jail

·         Police Murders Must Stop Now

·         Broken Windows and Bratton Must Go

The Stop Mass Incarceration Network called protest actions responding to the injustice for the Michael Brown and the Eric Garner cases throughout the country.
