Indigenous leaders around California have released a list of demands related to police shootings in Salinas, which led to the death of 19-year-old Gerald Martinez--shown above at door before he was shot.

The group said Martinez spoke Sapoteco and had a limited understanding of Spanish, so he sought justice and called his death a murder. They claim that Martinez did not understand the police order to get out of his house and raise his arms.

“Gerald was shot three times and killed by Mario Reyes, a police officer at the Salinas Police Station. Unfortunately, Gerald helps his family and his brothers continue to attend school and have others. Never live to dream of an out-of-field opportunity."
