ALBANY, NY – FWD.us New York Immigration Manager Eddie A. Taveras issued the following statement today on the Supreme Court’s decision to grant certiorari and hear arguments on the termination of DACA:

“For the 32,000 DACA recipients in New York, the Supreme Court’s decision to hear arguments on the termination of this vital program is deeply disappointing and will force Dreamers to continue to live their lives in fear and uncertainty. We encourage all eligible DACA recipients to renew as soon as possible, which is more important than ever given today’s decision. We are proud to work with our partners on the ground to improve the lives of Dreamers and their families, such as by granting access to driver’s licenses and making tuition equity a reality.

However, only Congress can pass legislation to protect Dreamers permanently from the threat of deportation. We will continue working with Members on both sides of the aisle to provide Dreamers the certainty to continue living in the only country most of them have ever known as home.”

“It’s important for all DACA recipients to know that the nationwide injunctions remain in place and we strongly encourage eligible DACA recipients to consult a lawyer and consider submitting renewals as soon as possible. Resources are available at www.InformedImmigrant.com.”

DACA recipients eligible to renew are encouraged to visit www.InformedImmigrant.com for additional information and resources.
