The leaders of the nation’s top civil rights and social justice organizations and several members of Congress have scheduled a media briefing to demand federal action to reform the nation’s police departments.

Civil Rights leaders and  Congressional members will hold a media briefing to demand action on police reform.

Prompted by the deaths of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, the leaders of the nation’s top civil rights and social justice organizations and several members of Congress have scheduled a media briefing to demand federal action to reform the nation’s police departments and to call for a national day of mourning.

Scheduled to participate in the briefing are :

  • U.S. Rep. Karen Bass (D-California)
  • U.S. Senator Kamala Harris (D-California)
  • U.S. Senator Cory Booker (D-New Jersey)
  • Melanie L. Campbell, President and CEO of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation
  • Kristen Clarke, President and Executive Director, Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under the Law
  • Vanita Gupta, President and CEO, Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights
  • Sherrilyn Ifill, President and Director-Counsel of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund
  • Derrick Johnson, President and CEO, NAACP
  • Marc H. Morial, President and CEO, National Urban League
  • Rev. Al Sharpton, Founder and President, National Action Network
