Monday, as members of the Electoral College were voting for the incoming Biden Harris White House, Bill Barr, the most corrupt U.S. Attorney General of the United States in modern history was announcing his resignation from the Department of Justice.

Several politicians and advocacy groups released statements on hearing the news.

House Majority Leader Steny H. Hoyer (MD) said the following:

“William Barr, during the course of his tenure as Attorney General, diminished the integrity of his office, eroded the independence of the Justice Department, and substantially undermined his own reputation. It will be up to his successor in the next Administration to restore the Justice Department to a place of independence and integrity for which Americans can have respect and in which they can have faith as the protector of justice and equality under the law.”

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) issued the following:

From misleading the American public about the Mueller report to his dangerous efforts to overturn COVID safety measures, from his callous disregard for civil rights to his rampant politicization of the Justice Department, William Barr was willing to do the President’s bidding on every front but one. Barr refused to play along with President Trump’s nonsensical claims to have won the election. He is now out as Attorney General one month early. “In 37 days, President-Elect Biden will be sworn into office. Whomever Joe Biden chooses as the new Attorney General will have a tremendous amount of work to do to repair the integrity of the Department of Justice—and I, for one, look forward to being a partner in that project. The work must begin without delay.”

New York Attorney General Letitia James also released a statement:

“This evening, President Trump announced that U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr would be leaving office later this month. As this lame duck administration’s days come to an end, I would remind President Trump that the rule of law will prevail and that I, and others, will fight to protect and defend the rights enshrined in our Constitution every single day, no matter who is attorney general.”

The ACLU, through its National Legal Director David Cole, also weighed in saying:

“Bill Barr was one of the worst attorneys general in U.S. history. He deployed the Justice Department not to promote justice, but to serve Donald Trump. He blatantly mischaracterized the Mueller report to whitewash its findings before the public could see it, questioned the motives of a legitimate investigation into Russian influence on the Trump campaign, revived the federal death penalty in ways that limited defendants’ rights to fair hearings, and interfered in federal prosecutions to aid Trump cronies Michael Flynn and Roger Stone.

“He forfeited the Justice Department’s independence and integrity in obeisance to the president. Yet when he was unwilling to repeat Trump’s wholly false claims about voter fraud, Trump essentially dumped him. That even Barr was unwilling to go as far as Donald Trump says more about the president than it does about the attorney general.”
