Thursday, Rep. Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS), Chairman of the Committee on Homeland Security, released the following statement on President Trump’s new executive order to politicize the Federal Civil Service and cause thousands to lose workforce protections:

“President Trump’s executive order to politicize the Federal Civil Service serves no purpose other than his short-sighted political desire to rid the Federal government of policy experts who disagree with him in order to further his extremist agenda. President Trump has damaged the Department of Homeland Security by politicizing its mission and denying it proper leadership, and we cannot let him do the same to the entire Federal government. Congress should oppose this order and ensure that President Trump does not make thousands of political appointments on his way out.”
