Ofili: Portrait Of Young Writer

-A +A

Where She’s From:
Beautiful young writer Joy Ofili whose Zodiac sign is Cancer was born in Pennsylvania and raised in Harlem, New York.

“However, my family is from Nigeria, she tells The Black Star News. “The most important thing that my mother  taught me has been  to take pride in my family tree because I am a descendent of greatness—and of course, great things are to be expected.

Where She’s At:
“Currently I am a student at Hunter College in New York where I am majoring in psychology. I have been writing poetry for years and I am ecstatic that I have the opportunity to share my work with the world in my debut poetry book ‘Poison: I No Longer Retreat, she adds. “This book conveys a message of survival and I do consider myself someone who has consistently been able to transform venom into adrenalin. This is definitely just the beginning stages and I feel that the sky is the limit. I am working hard everyday, I stay on the grind, I don't sleep. Sleep is forbidden as Diddy once said.

Where She’s Heading:
“I have a wide spectrum of aspirations, which include expanding my entrepreneurship, writing more books, and further advancing my education, she continues. “I have learned to conquer my challenges by staying positive and eliminating people from my life who do not have my best interest in mind, and do not want me to succeed in my endeavors. I also conquer my challenges by ridding of that inner critique that tells me at times that ‘I can't’ or that ‘I shouldn’t’ try because it would just be a waste of time."

“Being an author is something that I am very proud of, she adds. “This project has been years in the making, and did not occur overnight. At times, I felt like giving up because the pressure took its toll, but fortunately, I saw this project through to its completion. Now when I look back, I can reminisce with a bright smile on my face, and I do.

How does this attractive young writer dress to step out? “I love Armani Exchange Clothing, Lancôme makeup, and Victoria's Secret body lotions and scents. My favorite V.S. scent is Heavenly, she says.

Ofili’s Words Of Wisdom:
“There are so many detractors and opportunists that prey on those who they consider as weak. The minute that you choose to give into their tactics, you have let them win and validated their power over you. So stay strong, stay positive, and remember that you determine your fate.

Ofili’s Secrets Of Success: “Dedication and belief in my craft.
Ofili’s Favorite Three Movies: “Dream Girls, John Q, and Honey.
Ofili’s Favorite Three Books: " Know Thyself, by Naim Akbar, A Rose that Grew From Concrete, by Tupac Shakur, and  Rock My Soul by Bell Hooks.
The First Three Things Ofili Would Do As President: “Sign legislation to develop more affordable housing; provide inner-city school children with the same education and access that children in the suburbia receive; and further expand access to the political franchise and to healthcare.
