On Tuesday, December 3, 2019, Congressman David Price (NC-04) released a statement following a letter he led with 100+ Democrats to House and Senate leadership requesting $50 million for the federal government to study gun violence in the final version of fiscal year 2020 appropriations bill.

“There’s been too many gun violence deaths, and too little congressional action,” said Congressman David Price. Our letter with over 100 signers to support $50 million in gun violence prevention research shows that we refuse to stand by as the death toll continues to mount.

“The American people want solutions to the needless gun violence epidemic in our communities, and funding evidence-based gun violence prevention research will help save lives.”

This announcement follows a letter Congressman Price led with over 100 signers on March 28, 2019, to Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Subcommittee Chairwoman Rosa DeLauro, requesting $50 million for gun violence research in this year’s funding bill. This funding was included in the House version of the fiscal year 2020 Labor-HHS Appropriations bill through $25 million to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and $25 million to the National Institutes of Health.

Congressman David Price is a Vice Chair of the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force and for years has led letters to House Appropriators and House Leadership requesting funds for research into the root causes of gun violence.
