Tea Party Republican Vows Torpedo Of Immigration Reform

Since he couldn’t defund ObamaCare, Labrador now has bad intentions for Immigration Reform

According to Huffington Post, Tea Partier Rep. Raul Labrador (R-ID) is so upset about losing the government funding and debt limit debate that that he’s vowing to block the next priority on the agenda: common sense immigration reform.

Why? Because President Obama is the clear winner of the fiscal negotiations and, evidently, because Rep. Labrador hasn’t learned any political lessons from the past few weeks.  After Labrador said during an event with conservative members that they could no longer trust the president on immigration, HuffPost asked him a simple question: Is it dead?

“I think it is,” he replied. “For us to go to a negotiation, to the negotiating table with President Obama after what he has done over the last two and a half weeks, I think would be probably a very big mistake.”

This is nothing new from Rep. Labrador, who has been throwing cold water on immigration reform’s prospects for months.  Rep. Labrador is a member of the House faction whose ideological insanity forced the government into a two-week shutdown and imperiled the country’s credit rating.  This group is also the reason that Republicans’ approval ratings have gone from bad to worse.  Yet, Labrador takes no responsibility for the GOP’s tarnished political brand, instead saying to HuffPo: “I think what he has done over the past two and a half weeks — he’s trying to destroy the Republican party,” Labrador said of Obama.

Said Frank Sharry, Executive Director of America’s Voice, “Talk about denial: Rep. Labrador and his allies are the ones who seem hell-bent on destroying the Republican Party’s brand image, and they’re succeeding.  After the debacle of the past few weeks, let’s hope the GOP leadership stops taking its cues from Tea Partiers who keep leading the Republican Party on suicide missions, and starts finding a way to get something done for the country.  There are enough votes to pass broad immigration reform with a path to citizenship for the 11 million aspiring Americans right now.  If House leadership is smart, they’ll make this the GOP’s comeback issue and stop listening to those like Rep. Labrador who are intent on digging their Party’s own grave.”
