Worst form of Terrorism in America is from Gun Violence

New York City Council Member Jumaane D. Williams, Deputy Leader, and Co-chair of the Taskforce to Combat Gun Violence, responded to the mass shooting at Bronx Lebanon Hospital Center.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the victims of yesterday’s tragic mass shooting. There are no words or actions that suffice to help quell the pain inflicted on the victims and their families.
Additionally, the same words for this now too common occurrence once again rings hollow. While the president pushes a Muslim ban, the threat of gun violence is exponentially greater to our nation than ‘terrorism.’
Last year, approximately 33,000 more Americans died from gun-violence than ‘terrorism.’
This Bronx shooting represents the 174th mass shooting this year. This country represents just over 4% of the world’s population and yet almost half of all civilian-owned guns in the world.
This represents a demonic obsession with guns and an illogical refusal to see its effect. Number 45’s silence on the pandemic of gun violence, while solely focused on unfounded xenophobic and dehumanization of Muslims and immigrants is not only deafening, it is unnecessarily deadly.
