Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) issued the following statement after President Trump tried to overturn election results on a call with the Republican Secretary of State of Georgia Brad Raffensperger.

“The President’s effort to openly overturn our election results by putting pressure on the Republican Secretary of State of Georgia is a crime, plain and simple. It is another flagrant act of sedition from a president dead set on undermining the bedrock of our democracy: our elections.

“The constitutional remedy for a high crime and misdemeanor committed by the President of the United States is clear: impeachment.

“If the past four years have shown us anything, it’s that the President and his collaborators become more emboldened when they are not held accountable for their crimes.

“The constitution does not make exceptions for the amount of time the president has left in office, or the popular support they have. And we cannot either. For the sake of our constitution and our republic, we must hold this president fully accountable for his efforts to overthrow our democracy.”
